Child Abuse


Child Abuse Symptoms And
What to Watch For!

    Some indicators that a child is being abused are:

Physical Abuse

    Does the child:

    1. have unexplained burns, bites, broken bones or black eyes?

    2.  seem frightened of parents?

    3. shrink at the approach of adults?


Neglect

    Does the child:

    1. miss school frequently?

    2. beg or steal food or money?

    3. lack needed medical or dental care?

    4. appear dirty?

    5. dress inappropriately for the weather?


Sexual Abuse

    Does the child:

    1. have difficulty walking or sitting?

    2. suddenly refuse to change for gym or participate in physical activities?

    3. demonstrate bizarre, sophisticated or unusual sexual knowledge or behavior?

    4. have a venereal disease or become pregnant, especially under the age of 14?


Emotional maltreatment

    Does the child:

    1. show extremes in behavior?

    2. seem delayed in physical or emotional development?

    3. speak of or attempt suicide?

    4. report a lack of attachment to the parents?
