Joanne writes about Pest Offense: I'm not saying that this is a scam, but Pest Offense is sure a rip-off. To put it short. IT DOESN'T WORK! I called and bought the product after watching their infomercials, hoping to rid my new apartment of a roach problem left by the old tenents. I plugged it in and waited for the roaches to leave. (I did not want to use poison, since I have small children and animals.) I waited for two weeks (following the instructions). Then waited a month. Instead, I saw more roaches. In frustration, I unplugged it. And would you believe it? Two adults and a bunch of baby roaches were crawling behind the machine. They were using it as a nest. I wasted my money, not to mention my time, but won't do it again. I'm so disgusted I won't even ask for a refund. (Which I probably wouldn't get anyway.)

Justine writes about modeling rip-off: This is to all the models who want to start out modeling. There is that one website called Transcontinental Talent. They rip you off big time! They try to convince you to join their membership and they will create a composition card for you at a cost of $795 and for every other month a membership fee of $19.95. The comp card looks like a high school kid can do it. And Models look out. The membership is nonrefundable. They promise you that they have contacts with Victoria Secrets, CK, Guess, Cosmopolitan, you name it. But it's all BULL. Trust me it happened to me. The only one company who was interested was a pornsite. CRAP! So watch out!!! There are other sites that will put up pictures of you and they'll do your comp card either for free or with a minimal fee of $5-$10. (Editor's update: Transcontinental Talent has been investigated and closed.)

Stephan writes about Dave Turner: David Turner claims to set you up with a website and make money for you for one year for the price of $995. He claims to have you making money within one month. After seven months of waiting patiently and with a lot of excuses from him i demanded a refund. He refuses to pay me back my money. This is daylight theft and i hope we can do something about this. He is practicing his business under false claims. He has a lot of claims and guarantees of wich non have yet come to pass. He has provided me with a website wich still remains his own. But that is all he has done and nothing more. What can i do to get back my money? And what can you do to stop this man from taking other hardworking people's money? (Editor's note: Before posting this report, we attempted to verify Mr. Turner's Website testimonials at http://homebasedbusiness123.com with negative results. Most of our emails were either undeliverable or went unanswered after 6 days. Those who did answer, either did not purchase his program or were not satisfied with it. LATEST UPDATE: http://homebasedbusiness123.com is no longer owned by Dave Turner.)

John writes about Don Lapre: Hey! Don Lapre is back! Watch out!
In 1998 I ordered his Money Making Package for $39.95 (plus S&H, of course). A few weeks later I received the package and got "excited." Then I got a phone call from one of his "representative" who said that I could make even more money with my own web site and 900# set up through them. (At that time Lapre's company was called New Strategies.) I was told that I didn't even need a computer to have a web site. As I didn't have a computer at that time, I got excited again and plunked down almost a thousand dollars for two web sites, 900# phone lines and a listing with 300 search engines.
I tried everything to get the business going, including getting business cards printed. But I was told that my web site addresses (assigned by Don Lapre's company) were too long. This turned them off. No one wanted to come to my web sites. And the 900#s (psychic and sports) were a bust. (The only money I made there, was when I called to see if my psychic line was activated and the psychic kept me on the line so long that my phone charge for the call was over a hundred dollars. I was my own customer. LOL) Finally, I gave up and called for a refund of all the money I spent on this "business opportunity." Instead, they tried to sell me something else. Which I refused. I didn't get a refund, and last year (2002) my credit card was billed for the monthly maintenance of "my" web sites (which I had cancelled back in '98). The company that did this was Universal Business Strategies, which said that they were the new management for Don Lapre.
After calling and explaining to several of their phone people (they kept transferring me from one to another), and threatening to complain to the authorities since I had already lost too much money to them, I was told that they would cancel my account (which I told them was already cancelled BY ME in '98) and credit my credit card. But the web sites were still on the Internet a week later. When I called to ask why, they said that it would take time to close the sites. Bull! I checked last night and they are still there. They better not bill me again!
I also checked with Don Lapre's web site at http://www.donlapre.com. A couple of months ago, he claimed through his site that he had nothing to do with this new company. That they were ruining his good name. (LOL) But not anymore. Both his web site and the infomercial on a cable network I accidentally tuned into last night are selling his Making Money Package again. The infomercial was the same one I fell for almost five years ago (parts of it updated to 2002). This time I didn't get excited. I got angry! When are they going to put a stop to this crook? (Editor's update: Don Lapre's Website [http://www.donlapre.com] has been closed down. UPDATE: Don Lapre has returned under his old Website address above, hawking "The Greatest Vitamin in the World," Watch out for this one also. LATEST UPDATE: As of 2008, Don Lapre's vitamin website has been closed down.)

Wendy writes about a Nigerian scam: Dr. Adingo Rubado represents himself as a member of the "Contract Approval Committee," requesting a large Western Union transfer from my bank account.
Dr. Rubado (?) is but one of a list of 879 scammers working out of Nigeria, according to sources I've checked. Therefore, it is my contention that every email (or letter) requesting money (no matter how official looking) coming out of Nigeria should be looked upon with suspicion. This is not a scam that can be stopped in the near future. The best way, I believe, is to continuously warn the public.

Helen writes about Freestores.biz: I bought a Freestores.biz online "Free Store" website in November 2002. Later, I ordered a camera for myself from my website (supposedly shipped from the Freestores.biz warehouse) and did not receive the product - EVER! Emailing their "customer support" was a waste of time, since they never answered.
The website cost $29.97 for one year, with a 30 day money back guarantee if I wasn't satisfied. I wasn't satisfied, and requested a refund several times within the 30 day period and after, without receiving a response. I am still trying to get my refund, and have reported this to the FTC.
Not many people want to help with internet fraud because they think we're dummies to fall for it. But we're not! We just want to try to make a living! Especially when we're disabled and housebound! (Editor's note: On 10-9-03 Helen received the following email "This is to confirm your FREEstores.
biz store has been cancelled and to notify you that if your account has been charged, you will be
refunded the charges. We thank you for your interest in FREEstores.biz." On 10-10-03 she forwarded the email to us with a thank you note. Happy to help, Helen.)

Chris writes about Dave Turner: Dave Turner of homebasedbusiness123.com sold me a money making website that would be making money in the first month. He said i could expect to see between 6 and 12 thousand dollars back in the first year. He guaranteed the site to be up and operating in 30 days. Well the site took almost 2 months and in the 7 months since it has gotten 14 hits and generated NO income. He will not refund my money and just keeps trying to string me along.

Majdi writes about a scam through Ebay: In response to ad I have posted on Ebay, I was contacted by Sardu Manual of Italy claiming interest in buying my video camera and accessories. He suggested an escrow company who later contacted me claiming they have received the funds for the purchase. After I have shipped the items to him it came out to be a scam and the escrow company does not exist. The company URL is http://www.ws-trade.com/. The buyer email is manual_s1999@yahoo.com. He got the camera from Fedex and paid the customs and duties, and stopped responding to Emails. (Editor's note: Although World Service Trade has the above URL up and running, our investigation could find no existing business in Canada [The address given on their Website] under that name. Nor could we find it under its claimed former name of Recovery Now. However, we'll welcome a rebuttal from the company, or from anyone who knows this company, if the rebuttal can be verified. Editor's update: World Service Trade's Website [http://www.ws-trade.com] had been closed down, but was picked up and re-operated through the Cayman Islands, British West Indies. Be aware.)

Jo writes about Vacancynet.com: I paid Vacancynet.com $48.00 to subscribe to find a house to rent. When I got to the paid site, there were lots of houses listed but not one available, so I tried to call, the phone was disconnected. I tried to e-mail to support and my mail was returned as undeliverable. So I got no service, no questions answered, and lost my $48.00. I'm really upset. I'm a single Mom with 2 daughters in college.

Russell writes about a Liberian scam: I received a one-page fax from "Mr. Jones Peters" from the "Bank of Liberia." In his fax he informs you that he has about 14 million in one particular account and has learned that the owner of the account has died with no kin or relatives. In order to prevent the Liberian government from getting the money, he needs the recipient's (of the fax) bank account to deposit the funds as next of kin. He will then take 60% and leave you 40%. I did not fall for this scam, but I know a lot of people will. Please stop this son of a *#@&)!

John writes about CES-EAGLE-FLY: THE CON ARTISTS!!! FRAUD AND SCAM!!!-------
They promise you that you would "If you are not earning between $2,800 and $15,000 per month in SIX MONTHS, we will DOUBLE your money back."
Check out their website at: http://www.eagles-fly.com/.
That you do not have to do anything and that they would "do all the work for you."
Firstly they would ask you to join Megaopp or Juvio, or who knows which company they will be jumping to next, and pay the a co-op money for $135!!!
Guess what they will do with your co-op money? You are right, NOTHING!!! They will take away your money, leave you alone to do all the work and.....after 6 months and after hundreds and hundreds of dollars down the drain.....they will tell you that they don't have a refund policy!!! They will not give you back your money!!! Let alone "DOUBLE YOUR MONRY BACK"!!!
This is what they tell me in their own words:
"CES does not have a REFUND policy. This is a difficult time for everyone. CES has been dealt some pretty tough blows. Juvio's changes made it impossible to be successful. We are unable to add to the burden by providing refunds."
Guess what? When Juvio changed its comp. plan they said it is going to be better for all of us!! And all of a sudden they said it is impossible for us to succeed???? Then they just leave and jump to the next company and victim!!!
They will brush you off just like that!!! Please don't be burned like I did.
If you are already with CES or Eagles-Fly, I recommend you to quit while it's not too late!!!
Try cancelling your account now and see what they will tell you!!! Good luck!!
HAHAHA! I can't believe them!! Now they are saying that they can't provide the guarantee again!! They can only guarantee you that you will be satisfied with the money you are making after 6 mos!! Please put an end to these guys!! They are still taking money from innocent people!!! (Editor's note: http://www.eagles-fly.com has been officially closed down.)

Tara writes about Smartcertify.net: The following is an e-mail I sent to Smartcertify.net:
"I keep getting e-mail from you guys about Smartcertify's free IT courses. This is what happens every time I click on the link in the e-mails: I am presented with a form asking me for my full name, full address, both home and work phone numbers, e-mail address, etc. I reluctantly fill out the form and submit it. Then I'm taken to a list of the aforementioned courses. I have clicked on EVERY course link on that page, and each link on that page leads to a 404 or blank page. I have done this with all cookies enabled and my ad blocker diabled. Therefore, I am reporting Smartcertify.net as a scam. It is obvious that Smartcertify is only interested in collecting people's personal information, which is the key ingredient of identity theft.
By the way, I would appreciate it very much if you would take me off of Smartcertify's spam list and remove all my information from Smartcertify's database."
If you go to their registration page at: http://www.smartcertify.net/../demos/default.asp, you'll see that it's not secure.(Editor's note: The above Website has been closed down.)

Nancy writes about another Nigeria scam: What appears to be a fake job offer from Africa. The company named is Petrolog Incorporated. They say they are personal contractors for Chevron Nigeria Limited (who are legit). They are screening blue-collar workers' resumes on the different sites the resumes are posted on. You receive an e-mail out of the blue with huge salaries and other claims. You are supposed to send an immediate resume and make travel arrangements through their travel agent (Aeroland Travels Limited). They want you to send your travel money to the travel agent.
I would like word of this scam to get out, because it targets the craftsman, such as welders, pipefitters, safety inspectors, etc. We live in Texas on the Gulf Coast (Lake Jackson) and we have a lot of industry here. Right now there is no work and several men we know have received these e-mails. I have checked for 2 days via computer to see if this was a real offer. I found nothing except a scam letter nearly like the one we received. I found it on NASPA on the Internet. I just do not want to see anyone who is already out of work lose money they do not have. (Editor's note: We suggest you stay away from any proposition coming out of Nigeria, since it is presently considered the scam capital of the world. In fact, any proposition from that section of the world should be investigated with suspicion.)
